Technology and thinking outside of the box

Artists often work on projects while thinking outside of the box, ie they may use a non-traditional medium to work from. In this regard, how does this compare to work or tain of thought that may be required as a designer in the Design Graphics Engineering Technology trade?

Document Conversions, WYSIWIG, or HTML Code

Independant_chick writes:

"What programs have you found more friendly, when making your webpages for our assignments? Has anyone had to purchase a program? If so what kind of costs are we looking at, if someone planned on getting a copy for home?"

When creating a web page, a common thing to do is go with what has worked for you in developing other forms of presentations/documents and then converting those over to a web page. Better than coding the page with HTML, right? But what if you don't get the desired results? What options have you found and what is working for you? Whether using a Web Page creator, HTML editor, or converting Microsoft Office documents, what are you finding that seems to work best for you?

Multimedia in a Career

I can identify at least five major career fields in multimedia: gaming and/or entertainment, web site design, computer-based training, custom multimedia software development, animation. Each of these fields has overlapping skill sets and each of these fields also have skills sets that require specialization. Taking this a step further, are there obvious skills that should be also carried over to a computer graphics engineering technology career?

Various Forms of Media

It has also been said that multimedia differs and excels from other media forms such as video, newspapers, and books because it offers flexibility along with interactive capabilities. Are there favorite forms of media that stand above the rest for various reasons?

Multimedia & Invention

I once read that "in a sense, multimedia is truly an invention". What do you suppose is meant by that statement and how does it relate to the area of design for the design graphics engineering student?
